Three days is what most people give Da Nang, and it is also the length that goes wrong most easily. Three days is enough to see what is worth seeing — but only if you put things in the right order. Get it wrong and half a day disappears into traffic or queues.
This is the itinerary we build most often for first-time visitors, with real timings, real distances, and notes on where to stay flexible. At the end there are variations for families, couples, groups of friends and older travellers.
The shape of the trip

The logic: day one is light so you recover from the flight, day two is the heaviest while you are fresh, and day three finishes south of the city, on the way to the airport, so you never double back.
Before you fly
- Flights: arrive in the morning, leave late in the evening. That buys you almost a whole extra day without another hotel night.
- Hotel: stay in the My An – My Khe beach area. Close to the sand for day one, and on the right side of town for day three.
- Tickets: only one needs booking in advance — Ba Na Hills. Buy online the night before to skip the queue.
- Packing: light jacket for Ba Na, walking shoes, swimwear, sunscreen, folding umbrella, power bank, and small notes of cash — the best breakfast stalls take neither cards nor QR codes.

Three ways to avoid the crowds
- Go midweek if your flights allow.
- Walk to the Golden Bridge first, not the village.
- Buy tickets online the night before.

Variations by group
Families with young children
Keep Ba Na on day two but spend longer in Fantasy Park. On day three swap the Marble Mountains for Asia Park or a museum — the stone steps are hard work for small legs. Keep a midday rest every day.
Couples
Add sunset at Ban Co Peak on day one and stay later in Hoi An on day three. Consider dinner by the Han River instead of the night market.
Groups of friends
Add evenings: the Son Tra night market, a rooftop bar, or an early-morning run over the Hai Van Pass on day three before Hoi An.
Older travellers
Use the lift at the Marble Mountains and the funicular at Ba Na, and skip Fantasy Park. On day one, visit the pagoda but leave out Ban Co Peak.

Mistakes to avoid
- Squeezing Hue into three days. Hue needs a full day, and you would have to drop Ba Na or Hoi An.
- Putting Ba Na on the last day. If the cable car closes for weather, there is no spare day.
- Booking far from the beach to save money. Taxi fares eat the difference and you lose the morning swim.
- Scheduling 7am to 11pm for three days straight. Da Nang is hot; without a midday break everyone is exhausted by day three.
- Not booking Ba Na in advance.

Which day should I do Ba Na?
Day two. You have recovered from the flight and still have a spare day if the weather turns.
Should I spend a night in Hoi An?
Not on a three-day trip — changing hotels costs half a day. Visit Hoi An as a day trip.
Which season suits this plan best?
February to August. It still works in the rainy season, but keep a wet-weather alternative for Ba Na.
Hoi An or Son Tra on day three?
First time in Da Nang: Hoi An. If you have already seen it, Son Tra is much gentler.
My flight is late at night — what do I do?
Stay in Hoi An until about 8.30pm and go straight to the airport; the drive takes about 40 minutes.
Do I need a car all three days?
No. Days two and three are the ones that need it; Grab covers day one.
